PERIDONTOLOGY
PERIDONTOLOGY
Periodontology is the branch of science that examines the anatomy, physiology, and histology of the soft and hard tissues surrounding teeth, investigates diseases that occur in these tissues, and provides treatment for these diseases to ensure the continuity of health obtained as a result of treatment.
Periodontal diseases involve the discomfort of the tissues surrounding the teeth, such as the gums and bone. These diseases are often associated with genetic factors and, at the same time, progress due to the increased microbial dental plaque accumulation around the teeth, especially in individuals with poor oral hygiene.
In their treatment, the aim is to eliminate the factors causing the progression of these diseases. When early diagnosis and treatment are carried out, lost tissues can be regained, but in advanced stages, the progression of the disease is stopped by eliminating the causative factors.
